Care and Medical

When you work in the medical field, you can help to heal people as well as care for them while they heal. You could work your way to the top and become a general surgeon or specialists such as heart, lung or brain surgeon. This career takes many years to get into. You have to do four years of pre-med preparation, four years of medical school and then up to seven years of residency just for a start. For this reason, it might not be something you can achieve later in life. But there are plenty of care and medical jobs that require less training. You could become a nurse, for example, nursing degrees take three years. If you’re already working as a nurse, you could go on to do a nurse educator masters and train the next generation.

This could b preventing homelessness or ensuring children at risk are being adequately cared for, it will enable you to make a positive impact on the community and can prevent people (particularly children or vulnerable people) from suffering unnecessarily. To become a social worker you will need to take a degree in social work which will take three to four years. To become a housing officer, you will usually need a degree- most employers will prefer this to be in a related subject such as community development, building surveying or social policy.
