With the summer holidays officially over, it’s easy to let the normality of working life lull you into the same sleepy nine to five routine you’ve been following for years. But perhaps it’s time to admit that office life isn’t working out for you.

A caffeine addiction shouldn’t be the only thing that sees you through the daily commute, and whilst we’ve all fallen victim to the dreaded three o’clock slump at one time or another, spending all afternoon daydreaming about the world outside the office definitely isn’t normal or healthy.

They’re clear signs you’re in desperate need of a career change, so we’ve highlighted four freelance jobs that’ll bring some excitement back into your working life by letting you be your own boss. Take a look.

Personal trainer

If you’ve got abs of steel, a love of early morning workouts and motivational quotes rolling off your tongue, then a lucrative future as a personal trainer is yours for the taking. The fitness industry is thriving, and since people are always looking to get fit you’ll never be short of clients.

You might be raring to go, but you’ll need an official qualification before you can get started. With plenty of personal training courses available online, you’ll be able to study in your own time.

Dog groomer

Working with animals would be a dream come true for lots of people around the world, and becoming a mobile dog groomer is the ultimate freelance job for lovers of man’s best friends. You’ll get to travel around visiting clients, and enjoy lots of cuddles with cute dogs.

With training, costly equipment and the appropriate work vehicle, it requires some hefty initial investment to get going. But you’ll earn much more money in the long run than you would by dog walking or pet sitting, so it’s definitely worth it.

Cake decorator

Does watching The Great British Bake Off have you shouting abuse at the contestants’ lazy kneading and sloppy piping? If you’ve got the magic touch when it comes to baking the perfect cupcake then maybe it’s time you shared them with the world, and we don’t just mean posting a photo on Instagram.

Delicious cakes and beautiful icing are the most important things you need to make it as a freelance baker. Fine tune your decorating skills at an evening class and you’ll be making money from your creative masterpieces in no time.

House sitter

People who regularly travel often employ housesitters to look after their home. It’s an easy way to make some money if you’re looking for a flexible job that lets you laze around on the sofa all day.

Do it right and you’re basically getting paid to work your way through all seven series of Gilmore Girls. Although in all seriousness you’re actually there for security and maintenance, so you’ll need to be responsible between episodes if you want to earn some decent money.
