Most of the roles that people slip into are not long term. Instead, they’re easy roles to pick up, easy interview processes, and generally easy to settle down into. The people you work with will most likely be the support system you need to get you through the day. Everything else to do with that role is just boring. You wake up every single morning wishing you didn’t have to go in. You spend the whole time whilst you’re there wishing you were somewhere else, and taking to your colleagues about how you’d love to have a new job. But do you ever make any moves towards actually getting that new job? No, you most likely don’t. We’re so bad at saying how much we hate the workplace that we’re in, but we never actually actively look for a new job, we actively go into work and do the same thing we did yesterday. So we think now is the time to think about all of the other avenues that you could explore, and what you should do. There are so many interesting roles out there that wouldn’t confine you to the office life. So if you’re looking for a lifelong role that you can travel around the world with, we’ve got a couple of ideas for you. Keep on reading, and see if any of these catch your eye.
The Aviation Industry
The aviation industry is without a doubt one of the biggest industries in the world, and it only seems to be growing by the day. Holidays are now more accessible than ever before, and it’s now so easy to get to the destination by plane. As the years go on, thousands more are jumping on a plane and going all over the world. So to say there’s jobs available is an understatement. But why go for a basic role, why not challenge yourself and go for something really incredible. One idea that many people don’t go for, simply because they feel like they don’t have the mental capability for it, is piloting. Becoming a pilot would have been a dream to so many of you whilst you were younger, but why did that dream ever go away! You don’t even necessarily have to go for a commercial pilot’s license, you could go into the private sector and potentially have the freedom to earn more money. ACS rounds up the best aviation courses from universities that you could possibly take, and we just know that if you put your mind to it, it’s a course you will breeze through. We’re only as clever as we want to be, and becoming a pilot doesn’t have to be hard. There are so many other roles that you could follow that would still mean you can travel the world with the aviation industry, you just don’t have to try and pass a university course to do so. So get online and doing your research, and see if any of the courses suit you!
A Medical Role
There are so many different roles that you could go for in the medical industry, and we promise you the world is crying out for them. Medicine is one of those topics that’s either really going to suit you, or it’s going to be one that makes you so squeamish you can barely even think about it. But let us guess, you’ve only thought about becoming a doctor or a nurse. What about the other roles such as a physiotherapist, that would mean you would stay well away from all the blood and the nasty business. Plus, a physiotherapy course could see you going all around the world, perhaps with a sports team, or just going from country to country doing private work. It does mean you would have to train at university as well, but the course is fun and the reward is more than worth it. It’s basically studying and understanding of how all of the systems in the body work together to support function and movement. Physios focus specifically on movement and mobility, so the role would involve changing people’s lives for the better. If you were to qualify and go private as well, there’s a lot of money to be made in it! You just have to think about whether you’d be prepared to put in the hard work to get yourself there first, or whether there’s a different route in medicine that you would like to take, that wouldn’t require you to go to university to study.
Travel & Tourism
Travel and tourism is one of the most exciting careers out there, we believe. There’s just so many roles that you could go into that would mean you get to travel the world, but we’re just going to name two. The first option is cabin crew, which ties in with the aviation industry. For those of you who feel like going through pilot training is far too much, but love the idea of being able to work on a plane all of the time, well this is the perfect solution. It would see you travelling all over the world, having layovers for a few days in beautiful countries, and just generally living your best life. If you apply through a company like Emirates, you’ll have so many perks, and be travelling to some of the most magical places in the world. But of course, you could apply to whatever airline interests you! The other option would be to become a hotel rep, but this one is more of a short term role unless you take it to a management level, which we definitely would recommend. You’d be shipped off to a different country to be the rep for the hotel, helping guests who have booked through the travel company you’re hired by. It’s a pretty relaxed and fun job, and definitely not one to stay in unless you’re going to work your way up! It would just be nice to see the world and have different experiences!
