There’s no doubt that going to a job interview is intimidating. It makes us nervous and lost on what to do. You might ask a few friends what they do, but it still comes down to getting the right information. It’s confusing on what to wear, how to behave, and what you should study. Going to an interview doesn’t have to be a headache. There are some things you can do to ensure things go well. Consider these six ways you can nail a job interview.
- Resume
Go over your resume line by line to make sure that are no misspellings or mistakes. It should represent everything you’ve done in at least the last five years. It also should be easy to read and not crowded with too many words. No one wants to struggle through your resume to find your basic skills. Have a friend or a resume service look over your resume to give you tips. This is a great way to make sure it’s up to date and not old fashion. Refrain from submitting a resume by hand on flashy paper as it’s unprofessional. Interviewing for a job is nerve-racking. However, once you get the job, consider what you’ll do with the money. Think about commercial real estate investing and if it’s right for you.
- Research
Always do your due diligence on the company that you are interviewing with. Make sure you have all of the company’s operating information. It’s smart to study the department you want to work in. Use the internet to see how well the business is doing in the market. Go to their website and find the person on the staff you’ll interview with. This way you can get familiar with their faces and not be too intimidated. Research how the company is doing in sales and where it’s going in the next few years. Drill down on their salary offers and what others are saying about working there.
- Clothes
Your interview clothes should be spotless. Don’t drive to the interview trying to sip coffee at the same time. Showing up to an interview with spots on your clothes is unappealing. It shows you don’t care how you look and is a complete turn-off. Your outfit should fit the part you are applying for. Though an office might wear casual clothes, you should show up to the interview dressed professionally. A suit and tie for men and a nice dress for a woman is a good choice for an interview. It’s suggested to not wear loud bracelets or jewelry that distracts from your clothes.
- Body Language
Keep your body language positive and don’t slouch. You want to remain confident with your chest out a bit and ready to take on the world. Try not to overdo it where you might come off arrogant and rude. Your body language should show you can handle pressure and not freak out. It’s good to remain calm, cool, and collected when talking to any member of the staff during your interview. Most human resource staff will try to help you relax and tell you there’s nothing to worry about. Take this advice and do your best to breathe and think clear thoughts.
- Eye contact
Always make eye contact with your interviewer. This shows that you are interested in what they have to say. It also tells a lot about your attentiveness if you are given the job. Companies want to see staff who show they are invested in the business and want to work. Eye contact reveals confidence and that you know what you’re talking about. Try not to look around too much when you are talking as it shows your not confident in what you’re saying. Wandering eyes is a weakness an interviewer can pick up on and consider someone else.
- Job Description
Make sure you understand the job description you are applying for. Never assume you have it down when you can’t answer a few basic questions. It might be wise to quiz yourself on whether you understand the position and its necessary skills. Not all of us qualify exactly for every part of a particular job. We should at least have 90 percent of the skills that a business is looking for.
